Smart Lock 4th Generation

August is a leading manufacturer of smart lock products. Founded in 2012 in San Francisco, the company launched its first product in 2013. The first-generation August lock—designed by Yves Behar from FuseProject—quickly became a success among U.S. consumers. This allowed August to raise additional venture capital from top venture firms such as Maveron and Bessemer before the company was acquired in 2017 by Assa Abloy.

Under the umbrella of Assa Abloy, August has continued to expand its product line and lend its engineering know-how to other Assa Abloy brands. For example, August now powers all Yale locks' backend services.

In 2022, Assa Abloy decided to sell August+Yale to Fortune Brands. This decision was made after the U.S. Department of Justice objected to Assa Abloy's purchase of Kwikset (another popular U.S. smart lock brand). In order to move forward with the Kwikset purchase while addressing the DoJ antitrust filing, Assa Abloy decided to sell Yale+August.

Today, the company continues to operate independently while release best-in-class consumer lock products.

August’s first smart lock offering comes in champagne and silver colors and provides secure keyless access to your home using iOS and Android smartphones. It is easy to install as a DIY retrofit, replacing the interior of your existing deadbolt while leaving the outside unchanged, and allows you total control over who has access to your home and can manage how long their access lasts. Additionally, the product is powered by batteries, ensuring that it is always on, even if your power, Wi-Fi, or cable go down.

Smart Lock 1st Generation

The August 2nd Generation Smart Lock comes in two colors; silver and dark gray, and allows you to access your home using Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, or your smartphone. It automatically unlocks your door as you approach and automatically locks it after you enter. It also has a 24/7 activity log that lets you know who has accessed your door and when, and is designed to be installed quickly by replacing only the interior of your existing deadbolt.

Smart Lock 2nd Generation

The August Smart Lock 3rd Generation allows you to remotely lock and unlock your door, and also allows you to provide secure digital keys to guests using your phone. It easily attaches to an existing deadbolt on the inside of your door, allowing you to continue using your physical keys. It can be controlled using voice commands with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant, and comes in three colors: Silver, Satin Nickel, and Dark Gray.

Smart Lock 3rd Generation

Gorgeously designed by Fuse Project, the August Wi-Fi Smart Lock Pro offers a range of convenient and intelligent features such as access codes (requires pin pad accessory), unlock anywhere, monitor logs, battery level, and more. It comes with built-in wifi and lets you use your existing keys. The August App lets you unlock from anywhere and can be unlocked with your Apple Watch.

Smart Lock Pro

The August Smart Lock Pro 3rd Generation is available in dark gray and silver and allows you to unlock your home using your voice and a smart assistant such as Alexa, Siri, or Google Assistant. The lock also has a 24/7 activity feed that tracks activity at your doorstep. Additionally, you can keep your existing lock and keys and easily retrofit the smart lock to your existing deadbolt, and the lock will automatically lock behind you and unlock as you approach.

Smart Lock Pro 3rd Generation

The all-in-one Wi-Fi Smart Lock has all the convenience and intelligence you need in two colors: matte black and silver. It comes equipped with built-in Wi-Fi and smart features like remote access and auto-lock. In addition to being able to use your existing keys to lock and unlock the door, you can also use your smartphone or Apple Watch and the August App for added convenience.
