Illustrative sandbox workflow with Claude: consult Seam documentation, prepare scheduled guest access, then confirm the sandbox result. Access runs from Friday at 3 PM until Sunday at 11 AM. The door remains locked. No live device is operated.

Set up Seam in Claude.

Choose the setup for your Claude client, sign in to Seam, then verify the connection. OAuth connects your account without a Seam API key.

Connect Claude Code.

With Claude Code installed, run this command from your project directory to add the Seam MCP server. Then open /mcp in Claude Code, select seam, and complete the browser sign-in.

This adds the server for this project. Add --scope user to make it available across your projects, or --scope project to share configuration through .mcp.json.

Add the connector in Claude Desktop or on the web.

Open Customize → Connectors, select + Add, then Add custom connector. Name it Seam, paste the URL below, and complete the OAuth browser sign-in. Enable the connector for your conversation.

Choose this route for Claude Desktop or claude.ai. Team and Enterprise workspaces may require an owner to add the connector first.

Check the connection.

In Claude Code, open /mcp to check the Seam server, or run claude mcp get seam. In Claude Desktop or the web, start a conversation with Seam enabled and ask this question.

Try a documentation lookup
Use Seam to find the current parameters for /locks/unlock_door. Explain the prerequisites and how to check the action result, with links to the documentation.

Check that Claude uses a Seam documentation tool and returns a relevant source. Adding a server configuration alone does not confirm that a lookup succeeded.

Set up your integration.

Open your project in Claude Code and paste this prompt. It points Claude to Seam’s setup instructions in /agents.md.

Set up Seam in this project:

Choose your workspace permissions.

After signing in, check that api_request appears alongside the documentation tools. Ask your agent to list your workspaces. If Seam returns a permission-consent link, open it, select the intended scope and Viewer for read-only access, then retry. Device changes require write permissions. No Seam API key belongs in this MCP configuration.

Already connected? Replace the old Seam entry instead of adding a duplicate, reconnect or restart your client, and start a new conversation to refresh its tools. For documentation and skill packs without sign-in, use https://mcp.seam.co/mcp instead and skip OAuth login. This optional anonymous connection cannot access workspace resources.

Troubleshoot with your agent.

Investigate device and connected-account issues, Access Grants, access codes, and API or authentication errors. Seam’s MCP delivers the troubleshooting skill pack directly to your agent, with playbooks for gathering evidence and identifying what is still unknown.

Connect with Viewer access.

Use an MCP client that supports OAuth to connect to Seam’s authenticated endpoint. Sign in and approve Viewer access to the workspace you want to investigate. Refresh the connection and start a new conversation to load its tools.

Use your existing workspace. This skill is available through MCP without a separate plugin install. Replace the placeholders with the affected resource, workspace, and incident time. The investigation uses public API evidence and stays read-only.

Do I need both Claude setup methods?

Use only one: the command for Claude Code, or the connector for Claude Desktop and the web. Verify that Seam’s tools appear in the interface you use.

Can my team share the Claude Code configuration?

Yes. Add the server with --scope project to store it in your project’s .mcp.json. Each teammate must review the server and sign in with their own Seam account. The default command adds it privately for the current project; --scope user makes it available across your own projects.

What if Claude cannot find the Seam tools?

Check that the server URL ends in /mcp/authenticated and complete OAuth sign-in. In Claude Code, inspect /mcp or claude mcp get seam for connection and approval status. In Desktop or the web, enable the connector for the conversation and check whether your workspace requires an owner to add it.
