Set up Seam in ChatGPT.

Add Seam as a custom MCP connection in ChatGPT, then select it in a conversation. Account and workspace policies determine whether custom connections are available.

Add Seam to ChatGPT.

Open ChatGPT Plugins, select the plus button, then Add custom MCP server. Name it Seam, describe it as Seam documentation and workspace tools, and enter the server URL below. Choose OAuth authentication, complete Seam sign-in, review the connection details, and select Create as a plugin.

Review the tools ChatGPT discovers, then install the resulting plugin. Custom connection availability depends on your account and workspace policies.

Try a question with Seam.

Start a new conversation, type @, and select the Seam plugin. Ask a specific integration question and check the documentation returned by its tools.

Use Seam to explain the difference between access codes and Access Grants. Include when to use each and link to the current documentation.

If the tools do not appear, confirm that the plugin is installed and selected. Refresh the custom connection if its tool information needs to be reloaded.

Your ChatGPT conversation can help define the device, provider, and workflow requirements to carry into the implementation.

Choose your workspace permissions.

After signing in, check that api_request appears alongside the documentation tools. Ask your agent to list your workspaces. If Seam returns a permission-consent link, open it, select the intended scope and Viewer for read-only access, then retry. Device changes require write permissions. No Seam API key belongs in this MCP configuration.

Already connected? Replace the old Seam entry instead of adding a duplicate, reconnect or restart your client, and start a new conversation to refresh its tools. For documentation and skill packs without sign-in, use https://mcp.seam.co/mcp instead and skip OAuth login. This optional anonymous connection cannot access workspace resources.

Investigate device and connected-account issues, Access Grants, access codes, and API or authentication errors. Seam’s MCP delivers the troubleshooting skill pack directly to your agent, with playbooks for gathering evidence and identifying what is still unknown.

Connect with Viewer access.

Use an MCP client that supports OAuth to connect to Seam’s authenticated endpoint. Sign in and approve Viewer access to the workspace you want to investigate. Refresh the connection and start a new conversation to load its tools.

Use your existing workspace. This skill is available through MCP without a separate plugin install. Replace the placeholders with the affected resource, workspace, and incident time. The investigation uses public API evidence and stays read-only.

Where do I add the Seam MCP connection?

Open ChatGPT Plugins and use the plus button to add a custom MCP server. Enter https://mcp.seam.co/mcp/authenticated, choose OAuth, and sign in to Seam. Review the discovered tools, install the plugin, and select it with @ in a new conversation.

Why can’t I see the custom MCP option?

Custom connections are subject to ChatGPT account and workspace policies. Check the current OpenAI setup instructions and your workspace’s plugin settings. If a connection is installed but unavailable in a chat, start a new conversation and select it explicitly.
