# Arlo Cameras

> Connect Arlo cameras and video doorbells to Seam to stream live video, receive motion events, and retrieve event recordings from the Arlo cloud. Beta.

## Overview

Arlo makes wire-free and wired security cameras, floodlight cameras, and video doorbells for homes and small businesses. Arlo devices connect to the Arlo cloud, directly over Wi-Fi or through an Arlo base station.

Seam connects to an Arlo account in the cloud. Once an account is connected, you can stream live video, receive motion detection events, retrieve the recording for each motion event, and monitor whether each camera is online. No on-site hardware is required.

  Arlo cameras are in **beta**. Seam turns on Arlo, camera events, event media, and live video for each workspace separately, so [contact Seam](mailto:support@seam.co) to enable the ones you need for yours. Behavior and API shapes may change before general availability.

## Supported Devices

This integration supports Arlo cameras and video doorbells on an Arlo account. Seam has verified the Arlo Essential Indoor Camera (VMC3060A).

Seam represents each Arlo camera and video doorbell as a device with the `arlo_camera` device type. Arlo base stations and audio-only doorbells don't appear as devices. Cameras that connect through a base station do.

## Brand-Specific Restrictions

* **Cloud recordings require an Arlo subscription.** Seam retrieves each motion event's clip from the Arlo cloud library. If the Arlo account has no subscription that includes cloud recording, Arlo stores no clip, and the event's media ends in the `unavailable` status. Live view and motion events don't need a subscription.
* **Two-step verification is required.** Seam signs in with the account's email and password, then verifies the sign-in with a code that Arlo sends by email or SMS. The Arlo account must have an email or SMS verification method.
* **Reconnection after long gaps or password changes.** Seam keeps the connection signed in automatically. If the Arlo password changes, or Arlo stops trusting Seam's session, the connected account disconnects and your user must reconnect it. * **No doorbell press events.** Arlo video doorbells appear as cameras and report motion, but Seam doesn't report doorbell button presses for Arlo.
* **One live viewer per camera.** During the beta, Seam allows one live view session for each camera at a time.

## Brand-Specific Events

Seam fires the following camera event for Arlo devices:

* **`camera.activated`**: Fired when an Arlo camera detects motion. The event's `activation_reason` is `motion_detected`. Arlo doesn't report a `motion_sub_type`. When event media is turned on for your workspace, the event includes `media_ids` for the clip and a thumbnail. Pass each ID to [`/media/get`](/docs/capability-guides/cameras/retrieve-event-media).

## Device Provider Key

Seam identifies these devices with the `arlo` device provider key. Arlo is a beta provider, so a [Connect Webview](/docs/core-concepts/connect-webviews) doesn't display it by default. Before your users can sign in to Arlo through a Connect Webview, Seam must turn on Arlo for your workspace, including your sandbox workspace. To request it, [contact Seam](mailto:support@seam.co). Then include `arlo` in the `accepted_providers` list, or set `provider_category` to `beta` or `cameras`. A Connect Webview always shows a provider that you list in `accepted_providers`, but its Arlo login works only after Seam turns on Arlo. A category-based Connect Webview hides Arlo until Seam turns it on.
